On your own property, you can greatly reduce the risk of fire by clearing unnecessary brush and dead foliage. The mowing options listed above–especially the rotary cutters–are a great help. After cutting brush, use a landscape rake and loader to gather and move it. We recommend placing recently-cut brush in a compost pile. If you’d rather, you can recycle it for use in your garden with a John Deere wood chipper. Finally, use a box blade to create a fire break by removing the grass and a layer of topsoil.
